Every home designed by Stanley Martin features a chef-inspired kitchen with ample room to cook and entertain. This month, we put that inspiration to the test by inviting a celebrity chef for a private cooking demonstration and sampling for 30 guests in our North Hills neighborhood in Waldorf, MD. Led by former NFL running back turned chef and operator of the popular Victory Trucks food truck Tobias Dorzon, our guests were impressed with both the delicious food and the bright, open entertaining space.
While preparing some of his signature dishes in the gourmet kitchen of our Lexington model home, Chef Dorzon entertained the crowd with stories then served up a delicious, four-course meal. The mouth-watering menu included an apple pecan arugula salad, Thai chili grilled shrimp skewers, Victory catering company’s original five-cheese macaroni cups and banana pudding for dessert.
Following a three-year NFL and CFL career, Dorzon started working as a private chef for other pro athletes, corporate brands and celebrities. Chef Dorzon is now an executive private chef and founder of Victory Chefs Catering, which serves up hearty meals inspired by a collection of worldly experiences and a blend of diverse ethnic influences. He is passionate about bringing his upscale food experience to the masses and enjoys incorporating his native African heritage into dishes whenever possible. His passion for food was influenced by watching and working with his Liberian immigrant father, who spent 14 years running Kendejah, a West African restaurant on Georgia Ave in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Some of Dorzon’s most recent accomplishments include curating his own private dinner at the world-renowned James Beard House, winning an episode of Food Network’s “Guy’s Grocery Games” TV show and appearing as the featured chef on the VH1 reality show “Girls’ Cruise.” When Chef Dorzon isn’t cooking professionally, he can be found using his culinary talents to feed the homeless, speaking to area youth groups and spending time with his two daughters.
