Green Living at Stanley Martin Homes

Our homes are much more than the places we live. They hold our memories, provide shelter from the outside world and are a place of comfort for us! At Stanley Martin Homes, we are firm believers in creating homes that reflect our values and passions, and for us, that includes our mission to reduce our carbon footprint. With Earth Day coming up on April 22, we wanted to take a moment and highlight some of our green living initiatives.

  1. Better insulation and proper sealing. It’s just a fact that a properly insulated home is more energy efficient, less harmful to the environment and an overall better experience for your family. Not to mention the added plus of lower energy costs! All air duct systems in place are correctly sealed and tested by experts to prevent potentially dangerous crawl space and attic air from entering your home.
  2. Heat reduction. As warmer weather approaches in the spring and summer months, we ensure that every home comes with a 14-SEER, high efficiency, heating and cooling system that has been designed specifically for your home. Additionally, our radiant barrier sheathing technology reflects radiant heat – keeping your attic and home much cooler at a lower cost.
  3. Airtight design. Our high-performance windows are composed of Low-E coating glass. This microscopic thin coating reduces heat transmission, blocks dangerous UV rays and decreases solar gain – protecting your family while keeping you cool. Additionally, our third-party energy auditors use blower door testing to ensure that every window and door in your home is airtight.
  4. Reduced waste. During the framing process, we use Optimum Value Engineering (OVE) technology to reduce lumber usage and waste, all while improving energy efficiency. We additionally ensure highly-efficient, on-demand water heaters that will provide hot water only when needed. This technology ensures that you will never run out of hot water again, is much smaller in size, has a longer product life, and has no energy loss as with normal water heaters.
  5. Energy efficiency. Every home we build comes standard with our low-plumbing fixtures that save water and significantly lower your water bill. The LED light bulbs we use are more durable and last 15 times longer than the typical lightbulb. Each bulb lasts 30,000 hours, saving you the time and hassle of constantly having to replace them.
  6. Third-party Testing. Stanley Martin Homes individually tests every home by a third party to ensure it exceeds energy efficiency industry standards using the Home Energy Rating System Index (HERS). This system is nationally recognized and ensures that your home is more energy efficient than a standard home.

Whether or not you purchased a Stanley Martin Home because of our green initiative, we hope you learned a little bit about how your home was built with the environment in mind! Buying a home that is built to conserve resources and energy is not only beneficial for the planet, but for your bank account as well.
